The Beatles (here without John Lennon) prove Ringo Starr was the original “LOL CAT”.There is something unique in the pictures of The Beatles from ‘62 until early ‘65. Halfway between Kitchen-Sink Realism and a gleeful music video, the Fab Four always appeared on film as if they were happy to be anywhere and celebrating along with us. It’s as if The Goon Show walked onto the set of The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner and started singing at the top of their lungs. There’s an element of the total joy of being freed from one’s environment, of these Liverpudlians suddenly on top of the world and loving it. Yes, they were mere years from screwing it all up, but the ebullient joy in each of these pictures has not faded.
I know what you just said must be deep…because I had to read it twice and still didn’t understand half of it.
